The Sun have ran a report today claiming that Newcastle are trying to sign Chelsea full back Reece James in January on a 6 month loan deal.
This isn’t the first rumour we have heard about clubs coming in for James. It’s not surprising. I mean, there wouldn’t be many Premier League sides who wouldn’t want him in their team, which is why he is going nowhere.
Frank Lampard rates him VERY highly, he is giving him minutes at the end of matches and even bought him on late in the Champions League against Ajax last week. He fully trusts him already.
Make no mistake, Lampard wants and needs him in his squad now, for the rest of the season, and for the future.
He isn’t only just backing up Cesar Azpilicueta, he is also cover for the central midfield positions, and with N’Golo Kante’s injury issues this year, he is being used as good cover there as well.
Lampard desperately wants to get him more minutes and I still believe he will be ousting Azpilicueta at the right back role soon enough. For me, he’s just a better full back, but Azpilicueta starts for his experience right now.
But James won’t be leaving in January regardless.
