Chelsea beat Lille 2-1 in the Champions League last night and once again the talk is surrounding the quality of their first goalscorer in the match, Tammy Abraham.
The striker was celebrating his 22nd birthday yesterday and it was only fitting that he scored his 8th goal of the season, continuing the form that is making him more than worthy of wearing the Chelsea number 9 shirt, a shirt that some believe is cursed, a curse that Abraham is confidently breaking.
Didier Drogba is a Chelsea legend, one of the best players to ever feature for Chelsea. So Abraham has a long way to go to get to that level at the club, and of course, the players are different in terms of attributes and quality.
But there is one thing that Abraham does that is a carbon copy of Drogba, and just like Drogba, it works.
It’s the clumsiness around his touch. Drogba had it, Abraham has it. It’s a good clumsiness, the way he takes the ball in for the first goal yesterday with a first touch that didn’t kill the ball and looked a bit clumsy, was actually the touch that got him in a perfect scoring position. Drogba used to do exactly the same thing.
