Pace, power, skill and set pieces – MOTD pundit breaks down Mason Mount’s game

Ian Wright was on Match of the Day this weekend, and his analysis of the Chelsea game saw the former Arsenal man absolutely glowing when it came to one player in particular.

Tammy Abraham and Jorginho both got appreciative noises from the pundit, but it was Mason Mount who really got his engine running.

“Mason Mount, he’s somebody that is making a difference, especially in this area of the field,” Wright began.

“Once he gets on it, the pace, the power, the skill. Once he gets the ball in this situation he’s taking people on,” the poacher continued.

“He’s trying to create something in there… his free kick, again Tammy with the header,” he went on, noting Mount’s excellent set piece delivery.

Mount wasn’t actually the protagonist of Saturday’s game as much as he has been in previous matches. Then again, he won the penalty that allowed Chelsea to finally break the deadlock, and in that way he was the most decisive player on the pitch one again.

Tomorrow night’s Champions League tie will be another big test for the midfielder as he continues his ascent. If he can keep this up, he will have more people than just Wrighty signing his praises.
