The Newcastle United legend was watching his old team Southampton on Sunday as they took on Chelsea, and one man caught his eye in his capacity for a pundit on Match of the Day.

That’s the crucial point here. Mason, Tammy and the others have all deserved the rapturous praise they’ve had, but we also need to appreciate – as Shearer does here, that that success is heavily built on the more experienced players around them doing their bit too.
