Reece James’ 30 minutes shows how keen Frank is to get him in the team

Reece James was given 30 minutes against Derby, as Frank Lampard showed his desire to get the youngster more and more gametime.

The game was already won at that point, but to give Marcos Alonso a rest and Reece some time on the pitch, Lampard switched Azpilicueta to left back and put the youngster in his place on the right.

It was a token gesture, although Reece got involved plenty in his third of the game, but one that shows Frank is keen to get Reece involved wherever possible.

It seems very likely he will be given a chance in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United in midweek, and he’ll always be pressing for minutes in the first team the moment someone goes down injured.

He will have to be patient, but he’s getting games here and there, and it beats being on loan. There are plenty of games to come, and like Christian Pulisic today, he will get his chance.
