Split between Chelsea and player growing as Antonio Conte circles

Transfer rumours always love to link players with their old managers, as it just provides a very simple logic for any move that’s hard to deny.

In this case it’s Olivier Giroud being linked with Antonio Conte, now Inter manager.

Conte brought Giroud to Chelsea midway through his last season, clearly unhappy with Alvaro Morata’s efforts thus far. The Frenchman did displace the Spaniard, and scored crucial goals on Conte’s path to the FA Cup win that year.

Since then the manager has joined Italian giants Inter, while Giroud has seen his playing time diminish steadily.

Sport Witness have translated quotes from Italy which claim there is an “incurable” “fracture” between the striker at Chelsea, who clearly want to keep him but don’t want to play him.

It seems likely that Giroud wants out, and that Lampard isn’t planning to use him much. But even if there is truth to Inter’s interest, would the Blues let him go mid-season?

It seems unlikely. No matter how bad this fracture is, the former Arsenal man may just have to suck it up until the summer.
