Tabloid makes ridiculous early judgment on Chelsea’s £58m signing

We’re a couple of months into the season now, and the Daily Mail have taken this natural staging point to take a look at the many summer signings made by Premier League teams, and poke fun at those they think haven’t succeeded.

It’s clearly a ridiculous time to make such judgments. Most of the players they picked out have just not played a lot, or play on a bad team. Half of them at least will end up coming good – we all remember Luka Modric winning the “worst signing” award at the end of his debut season at Real Madrid.

The Chelsea man in there is Christian Pulisic, mainly because he’s not starting and cost £58m. Well, for a start, neither of those things is his fault. Secondly, he’s competing with some of the division’s most in form players. Anyone would be doing well to get in the team ahead of them.

We know it’s the Mail, and we’ll let them off this silliness, but we’re very confident that by the end of the season Pulisic will have found his role in the squad, and won’t be under nearly as much criticism.
