Chelsea’s official website always has a column from Pat Nevin, and this time he’s writing about just how far this young team can go.
Of course Pat is a real Chelsea man, and has been following some of these youngsters for a long time. He has one story in this piece about preferring Tammy Abraham to Dominic Solanke when they were both establishing themselves in the youth teams.
“I recall constantly saying on Chelsea TV that I rated Tammy Abraham well above Dominic Solanke as they were coming through from the youths,” he writes.
“Most of the outside focus was on Dominic at the time. Tammy has raced ahead lately.”
There’s no denying that. Abraham has had to wait for his chance, but taking some smart loans has allowed him to develop quickly, and now he’s had the break to get into the first team that he’s needed.
