Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham was unable to register a goal last night in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Ajax, but his overall play and desire to win the match was there for all to see once again.
The former Blues academy player is having the time of his life under Frank Lampard this season, and is the Premier League’s joint top goal scorer.
Even though he wasn’t the one to grab that all important winner in Holland last night, he was still the first person on the pitch at full time to congratulate goal scorer and positional rival Michy Batshuayi.
This just shows the squad togetherness that Chelsea have this season, and that has been bought back in to the club by Frank Lampard and his staff.
There really is such a feel good factor surrounding the club right now and it’s great even as a supporter to be part of it.
There will of course still be more ups and downs, but it is moving in the right direction.
As reported by the Chelsea website, Abraham spoke after the game.
He said:
“When he [Batshuayi] missed the first chance, I knew we’d create another one.
“He would have been frustrated and we were all frustrated but luckily Christian [Pulisic] produced some magic on the left wing and put in a great cross, and Michy finished it.
“We knew we needed to win so we came here believing in each other and to get the goal at the end was massive for us.
“These are the kind of performances that we need, coming away to such a great stadium and taking all three points.
“We had to stay patient because Ajax kept the ball well and created a lot of chances. It’s never easy to play them so we just had to stay together and that’s what we did.
“We can go as far as possible. We’ve got a fantastic team, our togetherness is unreal and we just have to keep that fighting spirit now.”
