If you talk about Jorginho and “amazing stats”, naturally one starts to think about passing.
The midfielder has set all kinds of records in all kinds of different places for crazy numbers of passes completed, touches on the ball etc. But in this case, it’s something a little different.
His penalty record has definitely been the topic of conversation in recent weeks, after Ross Barkley took one for the Blues against Valencia in the Champions League and missed. Jorginho can safely point to his record and say that on that basis he should be the man.
In an interview on the Chelsea website the former Napoli man had it pointed out to him that he’s scored 15 of 16 career spot kicks, and he jokingly responded that he didn’t want to know, in case he jinxed himself.
“Are you trying to bring me back luck?!” he is recorded as responding.
Quite right too! Let him get on with it, and don’t mentioned just how good that record is – unless Ross wanders over and asks for the ball.
