You have to be really, really good to get your Chelsea debut at 18, and that’s exactly what Billy Gilmour did.
After a couple of brilliant seasons in the youth teams, the young Scot was given chances in Frank Lampard’s team during summer friendlies, then again as a sub against Sheffield United, and then finally as a starter against Grimsby
That’s all before October. But if he’s that good, wouldn’t it be better to go and let him play 20 or 30 games in the Championship?
London Football News report that Leeds and Nottingham Forest are interested in taking him on loan from January, and we’d be very tempted. As great as it is to see him getting minutes occasionally for us, it’s going to be tricky to find him minutes once we add Ruben Loftus-Cheek to the mix.
Gilmour has been told to stay by Lampard, but it will be a tough call if this interest is real. He’s a quality creator who could add a lot to any team at that level. Maybe we should unleash him?
