Willian scored Chelsea’s winning goal tonight against Lille, a moment which could go on to be massive for us this season.
He’s incredibly controversial still among Blues fans, but we can all agree he’s done the business in the Champions League over the years. The numbers don’t lie, and OptaJoe pulled out a good one after his goal.
The stat in question is embedded here:
15 – Since making his Champions League debut for Chelsea in September 2013, Willian has been directly involved in more goals than any other player for the club (15 – 10 goals and five assists). Source. pic.twitter.com/4dcqZghdWg

There are caveats of course. Most crucially his longevity. Andre Schurrle was hardly going to beat those numbers in two years. But it means he’s ahead of Eden Hazard, to name just one. It’s undeniable that he’s done his bit in Europe’s top competition for us over the years, and he did it again tonight.
With Callum Hudson-Odoi ready to return, the long lasting Brazilian has upped his game, and the whole team is benefiting from it. We’ve got more and more competition for places in this team and Frank Lampard will be delighted.
