Mason Mount lifts the lid on England players’ WhatsApp group

Mason Mount has had a great week, coming on and scoring as a sub for England against Kosovo last night to celebrate his latest callup to the national team.

The week in the camp was slightly overshadowed by the incident between Raheem Sterling and Joe Gomez, which carried over from last weekend’s Liverpool-Man City game.

The pair were involved in a scuffle at the England training centre, but it all seems to have been smoothed over now, and speaking to the Evening Standard, Mason Mount revealed one of the reasons he didn’t think it was going to be a problem much longer:

“We go back to our clubs and we’re all going to be playing against each other, but we have a WhatsApp group, so we’re always talking to each other,” the Chelsea midfielder said.

“It shows how close we are. It’s like a family. We always keep in contact.”

That’s promising to hear. Generations of talented England players have come and gone and seemed to have club rifts taint their potential to succeed as national team players.

Perhaps now WhatsApp can win England a World Cup?
