The Chelsea website has turned to captain Cesar Azpilicueta to raise spirits after a shattering home loss to Southampton
He’s the ultimate competitor, always battling for every ball, and he will have been as hurt by our loss as anyone. People complain about footballers wheeling out the same cliches after every loss, but there’s really not much wiggle room for them.
What are their options? Dig out individuals in their own team? Criticise their manage? All they can ever do is say the team performance and say that they will do better next time, and that’s exactly what Azpi does.
He focuses on the good showing against Tottenham, which he thinks can inspire the team tomorrow:
“We have to look at what we have done well… It is true we have not been able to replicate the away form where we can win games in tough places like Sunday’s game against Tottenham where we did well and we kept our first clean sheet for a long time,” the Spaniard explained.
There isn’t much he can do with his words. But you can be sure the captain will be doing as much as anybody to make things right the moment he is out on the pitch with his team tomorrow.
