“You can see the player he is” – Lampard has special praise for Mount but warns of “difficult” games

Frank Lampard’s career has been closely linked with Mason Mount so far.

The young midfielder has grown up idolising the Chelsea boss, and they two first linked up last season at Derby, where Lampard took the youngster on loan and gave him his breakout season in English football.

This season they’ve both come home to Chelsea, and Mount has been a fixture in Frank’s teams.

He went through a period of weak form in the last couple of months, leading to question marks about his place in the team, but he was superb against Tottenham, and speaking to the media today, his manager picked him out for special praise.

“I thought Mason Mount’s performance… was a great example of why you want to stick with and have patience with these young players because he is a young boy and there will be moments where the game will be difficult for him and he will learn,” Lampard said in quotes carried by Football.London.

“And the next one he will be better. And then there will be games like the other day when you can see the player that he is,” he concluded.

We’re well aware that these youngsters will always have tough patches. As long as they play like that in the big games, we’re more than happy to be patient.
