Chelsea are ‘preparing a move’ to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner next month.
This is according to The Daily Express sources, who claim that Chelsea have Werner ‘in their sights’ for January as they look to spend some of the £150 million budget they have available to spend on new players.
They also claim that Werner, who has scored 18 goals in 17 matches in the Bundesliga this season, is also wanted by Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Express claim that Werner has a £27 million release clause in his new contract with Leipzig, making a January move more possible.
Chelsea are heavily reliant on Tammy Abraham up top at the moment and have given hardly any game time to Olivier Giroud, who is expected to leave next month, or very little game time to Michy Batshuayi.
It is clear that they will need to invest in another striker, and what an ideal cheap option Werner will be with his reported release clause.
