Match of the Day last night focused largely on Southampton’s performance – quite rightly – but they also spoke a little about Chelsea in the defeat, and our mysterious tendency to lose to weaker teams.
Ian Wright tried to explain how a team that can beat Spurs at the weekend could lose consecutive games to Bournemouth and Southampton at home,
“They’ve got the players capable of [winning these games]… but they need the confidence and creativity.”
He’s hit the nail on the head there. Once again it was a lack of creative touches in the final third that prevented us scoring, forcing us to gradually commit more and more men forward until we were caught out.
