“I wasn’t sure how much he was enjoying it.” Frank Lampard noticed a difference in Willian under Conte and Sarri

Chelsea winger Willian is one player who has really stepped up under Frank Lampard this season and has rediscovered some consistent and solid form.

He has become a regular starter under Lampard and has continued to keep young starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi on the subs bench.

Willian looks like a guy who is really enjoying his football this season and looks like he is playing for his manager.

The same can not be said of the Brazilian in recent seasons under Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.

There was the infamous emoji incident under Conte, as reminded of here by Joe.co.uk.

He also didn’t really have a very good season under Sarri last year and has been largely inconsistent on the whole.

This has not gone unnoticed by his current Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, who has been explaining that whilst watching from afar over the last few years, he did not think that Willian was enjoying his football.

As reported by The Metro, Lampard said:

“I knew he [Willian] had that talent before I got the job.

“But the last year or two I have looked at him from afar and wasn’t sure how much he was enjoying it. A bit of body language, in and out sometimes.

“My feeling at the start of the season was to get into his head, tell him how much I feel about him and how I see him. Get him fit, get him working off the ball because I know he can.

“He has this incredible ability to burst away from people. If there was one thing I wanted from him at the start of the season it was a question of can you score more goals? Because your talent says you should do.

“When the other options are younger, experience certainly helps.

“All his team-mates love him, he is a low maintenance player and I am really happy with him.”
