Chelsea have plenty of Barcelona options even if Coutinho deal is not completed

Chelsea have been strongly linked with Philippe Coutinho in recent weeks, but even if they don’t agree a deal with Barcelona for the attacking midfielder, there are a ton of other Blaugrana in the fire sale.

The Catalan club have bloated up their squad with all kinds of bad buys in recent years – including Coutinho – and they were desperate to sell some of them even before football was struck by the coronavirus chaos.

Now players like Nelson Semedo, Junior Firpo, Coutinho and Arthur Melo are being all but openly offered around, with tons of other younger players like Carles Perez whom the Blues are less likely to be interested in.

Newcastle, with their potential new Saudi owners, are said to be keen to make an impact in the transfer market, and former Liverpool man Coutinho might be the man they target.

That would certainly suit Barcelona, who just want to get rid of him, but would leave Chelsea without the attacking upgrade they’re interested in.
