Chelsea are reportedly close to sealing their second summer signing

A few weeks ago there was a report linking Chelsea with a surprise move.

As The Daily Mail reported, The Blues were considering making a £5 million move to sign Frank Lampard’s former player from Derby County, Max Bird.

The 19-year old was reportedly being looked at by Chelsea under Lampard’s recommendation.

Following a fresh report from Todofichajes as cited by The Evening Standard, Chelsea are closing in on completing the £5 million deal to sign the young English midfielder.

This will be Chelsea’s second signing of the summer after securing a deal to sign winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax earlier this year.

However, the links with Bird seem rather odd, with Lampard quite heavily stacked in the midfield area already, unless he has plans to sell one or two of his current options this summer.

It will be interesting to see how this one pans out as the story gathers pace.
