N’Golo Kante returns to Chelsea training – but remains separate from other players

N’Golo Kante is training at Cobham again, but his participation in the restarted Premier League next month is far from certain.

The Sun today reported that the France star is running alone at Chelsea’s training base to stay fit, staying separate to the rest of the squad who are now engaging in group training.

That’s promising, and certainly working on the pitches with the coaching staff he can get closer to match sharpness than just doing laps of his garden.

But despite the regular tests the players are undergoing, the midfielder clearly doesn’t feel ready for the infection risk of playing in a group yet. If he won’t train with his teammates, he certainly won’t want to play games either. The question is whether he can be persuaded or not in time to get fit for “Project Restart”, which will see the top flight resumed midway through next month.

We don’t want Kante to play if he’s afraid, but it will also be a blow to Frank Lampard’s team to miss him for the crucial remaining games of the season.
