Frank Lampard approved an offer for attacking midfielder – but Chelsea hierarchy said no

Frank Lampard “approved an offer” for Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Fraser in January, only for the board to “shy away” from making one.

That’s according to the Athletic’s article on the young Scot’s future, where they assess where his next stop might be as he looks to step up to a bigger team.

The 26 year old is out of contract this summer, and could probably have been bought for a small sum – although the Cherries insist they weren’t selling.

Lampard’s team were looking a little short creatively at the turn of the year, and an addition of that type could have given them the lift they needed, but it didn’t materialise.

In the end, as we know, Chelsea ended the window empty handed, causing some consternation among fans. They were placated a month or so later when the club announced the signing of Hakim Ziyech for this summer.

That looks to have kept Lampard and the fans happy, and if the Blues can get over the line into the Champions League places, it sounds like this might have been a good call.
