Chelsea defender’s future in doubt with no sign of a contract extension

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is focusing on strengthening his defence this summer, after already adding two attacking signings.

Having signed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, Lampard is now looking at his defence according to The Daily Mail.

They mention that Leicester City left back Ben Chilwell is being looked at, but there is also focus on centre backs, with Antonio Rudiger’s Chelsea future now in doubt.

The German international has two years left on his current contract and there have been no talks of a potential new extension, as things stand.

Usually when a player’s contract enters the final two years, there will at least be talks of an extension as to not get close to a situation of losing that player for a low fee, or for free.

The fact there has been no talks could be significant for Rudiger’s Chelsea future, with more arrivals expected this summer.
