Frank Lampard refuses to rule out signing Kai Havertz this summer

As we are all well aware by now, Chelsea are keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz this summer, and the deal looks to be progressing along.

All the top sources are reporting similar stories to the latest news on the rumour from transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea are very much leading the race to sign the 21-year old German international, and they seem to be the only club in this race.

Frank Lampard took his pre-match press conference this afternoon and as expected, he once again got thrown questions regarding Chelsea’s alleged pursuit of Havertz.

Lampard could easily have played it down entirely and said there are no talks, or at least no interest at this moment. But instead, his response was quite significant.

He was coy on the subject, which is totally natural. But Lampard’s words here under the circumstances are pretty much as good as confirmation of Chelsea’s interest, in my opinion.

As reported by Football London, Lampard said:

Kai Havertz, likely to sign him?

“Unfortunately it’s another answer from me, that that is not something I want to broach at this moment in time. My focus is completely on the game.

“So I don’t want to give you any ifs buts or maybes for the summer, my focus has to be on the here and now.”
