Chelsea defender Malang Sarr is set to join Porto on loan for the season, the club have confirmed.
The defender had joined from Nice on a free transfer just 5 weeks ago, but was never expected to compete in Frank Lampard’s first team. The established pair now looks to be Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma, with Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen providing the backup, and Cesar Azpilicueta able to play in the middle in a 3.
Instead Sarr will have a superb opportunity to continue the excellent development he showed in France in a new country.
Porto should be a good level – a step up from Nice and competing in Europe and for the title at home, but still with a weak enough squad that he can expect to be a regular starter.
Still just 21 but with over 100 senior appearances under his belt, Sarr is a player who we can all get behind as a potential star of the future.
