Ben Chilwell limps off injured as Chelsea fitness issues continue

Ben Chilwell has been substituted after less than ten minutes in Chelsea’s big Monday night clash with West Ham after rolling his ankle.

The left back was trying to tackle Jarrod Bowen, and the West Ham man’s foot knocked into Chilwell’s standing leg, totally by chance.

It looked a nasty over-extension, but it could just be swollen and strained rather than actually snapped or ruptured. Let’s hope so, the last thing we need is another injury, especially to a player who has been such an important creative outlet for us out wide.

Fortunately for Chelsea, just after the left back had limped off they scored from a corner, and now lead the game. But this is still a big blow with 80 minutes to go.

We await the manager’s comments after the game to find out more – but as always he will probably say they need to wait for the results of a scan to know for sure.
