Christian Pulisic’s improved performance shows he’s on his way back to his best

Christian Pulisic didn’t score or assist a goal last night, but his presence in the team was important, and he looks to be returning to full power.

There’s no doubt he should have had an assist, when he slid the ball in for Timo Werner, who shot straight at Lukas Fabianski. There were numerous other occasions when his direct running caused problems for the West Ham defence, and while he’s not quite got his final touch back yet, it was a serious improvement over what we saw earlier in the season.

WhoScored gave him a 7.0 rating, which seems a fair account of his game.

This weekend’s game against Arsenal will see us play without our two first choice full backs, and lacking the width and creativity they bring, we will need Pulisic to continue his improvement and bring the pace and trickery one on one that can open up the Gunners’ shaky defence.
