Former Chelsea youth team player loaned out by the club as a coach

It isn’t something you see too often, but it is certainly something that does occur and has many benefits.

Chelsea have loaned out one of their under-18s coaches, James Simmonds, according to an official announcement from the club he has joined, AFC Wimbledon, posting the news on their website.

Simmonds played for Chelsea in the youth team but went on to become a coach in the ranks at the club instead.

Now he joins AFC Wimbledon as part of their first team coaching setup, which will hugely benefit both clubs and give Simmonds his first taster of senior football coaching.

Simmonds is rated as a coach at Chelsea, so sending him out on loan is an intelligent move for the club and will help nurture and grow him as a top coach to come back and be at Chelsea for future years, a lot like they do with their players.
