Fikayo Tomori’s loan move to Milan worked out superbly well for the player and for the Italian club. But Chelsea – and especially Chelsea fans – were left feeling a little hard done by.
The club inserted a purchase clause in the defender’s contract, meaning that once he had shone in Serie A for a bit, Milan were able to bring him in for a fixed fee.
The Blues don’t want to make the same mistake again, however. SempreMilan have translated quotes from MilanNews which report that a deal for Hakim Ziyech, rumoured for some time now, would not take the same shape.
Adding a fixed purchase option only benefits the club loaning the player – Chelsea had no chance to ask for more money when it came to Tomori, and they don’t want to put themselves in the same position again.
The deal with Fikayo was disappointing – at least it seems like Chelsea have learned their lesson now.
