Chelsea’s Jorginho reacts to scoring winning penalty to send Italy to the Euros final

It was party time for Italy last night and commiserations for Spain in the Euros.

From a Chelsea perspective, we had two of our Blues progress to the final of the Euros last night, and one go home.

Italy beat Spain on penalties after an emphatic game of football that was thoroughly enjoyable for the neutral. There could only be one winner though, but neither side deserved to lose.

It was Chelsea’s Jorginho who stepped up to take the last decisive penalty that he had to score to put his country through to the final, and he was absolutely ice cold as always stepping up the calmly convert the spot kick.

Cesar Azpilicueta is now on his way home being on the losing side with Spain.

Emerson Palmieri was also fantastic for Italy as he came in to replace the injured Leonardo Spinazzola.

Italy will now find out if they face England or Denmark in the final.

Jorginho has reacted to scoring the winning penalty, as reported by Football Italia:

“It was a struggle against a great team that made us run so hard, we knew we’d have to suffer, but we believed to the end and in my view deserved to win.

“When you take the kick, you feel this weight fall off your shoulders! I tried to forget everything around me, focus on what I’d trained to do, took a deep breath and got on with it.

“Italy never give up, we always believe. This is a marvellous squad that deserves all the best, because we suffer together, we play together, laugh together, joke together and like all families can argue together at times, but we always end up there together.”
