“Progress and grow” – Kurt Zouma opens up on leaving Chelsea this summer

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma switched London clubs this summer joining West Ham United.

It was a move that seemed inevitable as soon as the rumours started to come out. Zouma was an important player for Chelsea, but he was never going to be the regular starter that he desired, and that was bound to cause problems for him.

Thomas Tuchel had the likes of Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, and Antonio Rudiger all in fine form and all regularly being selected ahead of Zouma, who although he became a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, all parties and the fans believed it was the right time for him to move on this summer.

His opportunities will be much greater at West Ham, and he is still in a team competing in Europe, albeit not the Champions League.

Zouma has yet to really speak about leaving Chelsea in public, until now.

In an interview reported by Football London, Zouma said:

“The integration? I get along well with everyone. Honestly, I’m someone who talks to everyone.

“I needed to play more. Obviously I was in a team that was doing really well. Coming here has allowed me to compete more to play. It’s a club that wants to progress and grow. And I want to be part of this project.”
