Chelsea played poorly tonight and got the loss they deserved.
Thomas Tuchel is always open and honest in his assessments after the game, and we were interested to see what he would make of this defeat.
The Chelsea boss was frank and open as usual, and he basically just said the team looked sluggish and lacking in energy. That much was evident for us.
He also identified one particular issue: shooting. As he pointed out in quotes carried by Football.London, the Blues didn’t shoot enough, and didn’t shoot accurately enough.
“A shooting problem. If we don’t shoot, they cannot be on target. If you play against a deep block like today, it’s hard to take shots. We found the spaces, it wasn’t easy. We had a lot of shots, but I think there are some chances late in the game where it wouldn’t have been so hard to find the target.”
It’s a bit of a ramble, but we know exactly what he means. It’s one thing to have 70%+ possession, as we did in the first half, it’s another thing entirely to get into dangerous positions with the space and composure to shoot.
Defending has not really been an issue for this team, but creating chances was difficult back when the coach first arrived, and remains their big problem to this day.
