Chelsea shouldn’t risk recalling talented striker despite injury issues

It feels like just a week or two ago that the transfer window was closing, but it’s already now almost November, and teams are tending to look forward rather than backward.

Chelsea have a very deep squad at the moment – we are about to see an almost entirely rotated XI against Southampton in the EFL Cup tonight. But if there is one area that is a little thin, it’s up front.

We’ve seen that with the injuries to Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku this week. Even Werner is not a like for like replacement for Lukaku, and playing Kai Havertz up there means changing the fundamental balance of the team.

Goal.com report that there is a recall clause in Armando Broja’s loan to Southampton, and they hint that Chelsea could use it, but we can’t see it. He’s finally breaking into the team there, and our injury issues will soon pass. It would be crazy to risk Broja sitting on the bench in such an important developmental season for him.
