Chelsea have had a few players out of form in recent weeks, and we were all expecting changes for today’s game against Southampton.
Thomas Tuchel obliged, with major alterations to his side from front to back.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi came in, exciting plenty of Blues fans who had been keen to see them both in action.
Jorginho was the man who missed out to allow Ruben a chance, and speaking to Chelsea’s official website before the game, Tuchel explained why the Italy star had been the one to miss out.
Thomas Tuchel:
"We’ve gone for Ruben in midfield instead of Jorgi because we’ve overused him recently. He hasn’t had much of a pre-season and he’s played a lot of matches."https://t.co/MI5YR98ADj

“We’ve overused [Jorginho] recently” the German coach said.
“He hasn’t had much of a pre-season and he’s played a lot of matches.”
It’s certainly true that he’s played a lot, coming right into the team off the back of a long season followed by a Euros run that saw him lift the trophy.
However, we’re sure this isn’t just a matter of tiredness, Tuchel is just being diplomatic. After two defeats, changes were needed, and this was an obvious one to try a new combination.
