There has been some majorly unwarranted, misjudged, and ill-thought media scrutiny of Thomas Tuchel over night after the Blues boss once again is drawn into stating that Covid-19 vaccines are a free choice.
I say ‘drawn into’ because that’s literally what he was, he was forced to speak about it AGAIN even after making his views perfectly clear on this subject before. But he was asked about it again during a PRE-MATCH press conference, you know, a football manager discussing public health affairs and not the actual game in hand, makes sense right?
It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!
And this is the exact point, Tuchel is A FOOTBALL MANAGER, one who is fully jabbed and was public in encouraging them when he had his.
Stating that they are a free choice is merely him protecting his un-jabbed players from public scrutiny, because he can hardly pin them down and force them to take it, can he? So what is the alternative? The media want him to publicly say they should all get jabbed, but what good would that do in a footballing sense? That is not how you man-manage and would have a detrimental effect on how those players perform for him, which absolutely has to be his priority, that is what he gets paid to do.
He basically says this here in his words last night as reported by Football London.
“I mean you can have an opinion, I can have an opinion but a player can also have an opinion.
“Then there can be regulations around this, like when you arrive at work your employer can create an environment where you are not allowed to be in the building if you are not vaccinated. This can happen so you have to adapt to it and you have to live with the consequences.
“But we cannot force people to get vaccinated and I will not change my opinion on that. I am not the guy to comment on that, I am not the expert here. There are experts in this country, all over the rest of Europe. Ask them and ask me please about football.
“I will not get involved. I am vaccinated. I made the decision for me and that’s it.
“You know that it’s causing an issue. But it’s not that we have all unvaccinated infected. We have vaccinated players who are positive.
“I don’t want to get involved in pointing fingers and starting the hunt for non-vaccinated people. This is a choice to make. Leave it there.”
