All of Chelsea’s Covid cases hit the same part of the pitch in major blow to Thomas Tuchel

Well isn’t that just typical.

Just as Chelsea come out of a really nasty midfield injury crisis, a wave of Covid positives hits the squad – and all four of the recent infections appear to be attackers.

We knew midfielder Mateo Kovacic was isolating – he should be ready to go from tomorrow – but all of the new names are attackers.

Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi all miss out on the squad tonight. That’s all three of our strikers, and one of our wingers.

That means Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic play as a front three – but beyond them there’s nothing. Ross Barkley, a central midfielder, is perhaps the most attacking player not on the pitch.

If all four of these guys miss ten full days, we’re really in deep trouble. The three we’ve got up top now will have to play every game, and none of them are a striker to begin with.
