Chelsea can no longer recall on loan midfield pair in January

There has been a lot of talk recently regarding Chelsea potential recalling one, two, or even more of their current players out on loan this January.

This comes after a lot of recent injuries, issues, and fatigue in the current squad and a number of key players missing many big games recently.

Ben Chilwell’s injury is obviously massive, but the fact they have also been without N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic for the last month or so has also become a problem.

This brought talk of recalling either of Conor Gallagher from Crystal Palace, or Billy Gilmour from Norwich in January, with the club holding a break clause in both of their contracts.

However, according to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea are no longer able to recall either of them as per their contract terms, because both have now played the required games to make the recall void in January.
