Chelsea draw Lille in Champions League second round

Chelsea have drawn Lille in the second round of the Champions League.

The Blues were cruising to top spot in the group, only to concede a last minute stunning volley to Zenit St Petersburg and end up second.

That guaranteed a very tough draw, but the Blues have got a little lucky in the end. First of all Real Madrid came out of the hat, then Bayern Munich joined them. Then Ajax were picked out to face Inter – leaving Chelsea with no other option other than French champions Lille.

There was a very strong chance that the Blues were going to end up with Bayern or Real, so to avoid both is a coup. Thomas Tuchel won’t be letting his side get too comfortable however – they aren’t in great form at the moment, and if their injury issues continue this will be a real test.

On the other hand, this is the best outcome we could have hoped for after our gaffe in Russia this week.
