A weakened Chelsea team limped away from yesterday’s game against Wolves feeling like they should have won the game – but also pretty happy to not be beaten.
It felt like the Blues had created a decent amount, especially in the first half, but that pressure didn’t really translate into clear cut chances, as their “expected goals” numbers show.
Thomas Tuchel’s team had just 0.8 xG in the game according to FBref. That’s the lowest they’ve had in any game since they played Brentford (and should have lost) way back in mid-October.
Even in recent draws against Everton, Man U and Burnley we’ve made 2.2, 2.7 and 2.9 xG respectively.
Our biggest consolation was our expected goals against, which worked out as 0.3 the lowest we’ve conceded since we played Malmo last month. That follows from a similarly impressive 0.4 against Everton in midweek.
We need those forwards back now, our underlying numbers are dipping pretty severely right now.
