Chelsea lose £145.6m despite rising turnover

Chelsea have today released their annual financial results for the year from 31th June 2020 to 30th June 2021.

Thanks to the devastating effects of the pandemic, matchday revenue was slashed along with several other sources of income.

Despite that, the cub’s turnover rose to £416.8m, although the year ended with a £145.6m loss, according to the BBC’s summary of the results.

The £109.7m move for Romelu Lukaku was also a major debit, despite being balanced out by plenty of sales.

Overall the club’s financial positions seems very healthy, with most summers’ spending now covered by sales. A return to full stadia and the new Premier League deal in a few years should see us back on healthy footing before too long.

The effects of winning the Champions League this term will take a while to filter into the results, and there is plenty more room for uplift at the Club World Cup.
