Chelsea’s request for match postponement rejected by Premier League

Chelsea’s ongoing injury problems were made worse this midweek when several first team players were struck down by Covid.

The Blues played their game against Everton regardless, even as games all around them were called off.

Today there have been further positives in the camp, and this time Chelsea did request that the game was called off, but their petition fell on deaf ears at the Premier League.

Matt Law at the Daily Telegraph has a quote from a club spokesperson who said that Chelsea were “deeply disappointed” at the decision.

The reality is that the Blues probably do have enough fit players to fulfil the fixture, and on that basis they’re being made to go ahead and play it.

Of course it’s not going to feel like a particularly fair decision if we’ve got squad players filling in, out of position, all over the pitch. But at this stage, there’s nothing we can do except try to win.
