It’s pretty astonishing how quickly football fans lose their mind.
Ten days ago Chelsea were flying in all competitions, looking set to compete for the Premier League and Champions League. Meanwhile Conor Gallagher was putting in some of the most impressive performances by any midfielder in the Prem for Crystal Palace on his loan from the Blues.
The panic after a few bad results for Chelsea has meant that there were already wild calls for Gallagher to be recalled from his loan in South London to help the first team.
Now don’t get us wrong – he’s a quality player and if he had been at the club this last month he would have played plenty of games.
But we have an exceptional injury crisis going on at the moment, and with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic et al back, Gallagher would be on the bench a lot.
So we’re not surprised to hear reports from Sam Inkersole of Football.London rubbishing those claims that Gallagher could be brought back.
With any luck, by the time the January window opens we will have some of our own midfielders back, and the point will be moot anyway.
