There has been an absolute rash of penalties in the last few years in the Premier League, due to the introduction of VAR – and Bruno Fernandes – to the league.
This weekend alone, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City all won thanks to spot kicks, and we expect the trend to continue.
We’d rather see fewer given, but if this is going to continue, we’re happy to have Jorginho in the squad. He’s really shaken off his bad patch of form with penalties, and was there to net two against Leeds. He also got the high-pressure equaliser against Man U a few weeks ago.
He’s only been at Chelsea since 2018, but has already got FOUR braces from the penalty spot.
Before Saturday’s effort, he had managed the feat against Ajax in 2019, then against Crystal Palace in 2020, and then against Malmo two months ago.
The two on Saturday take his total to 21 scored of 24 taken.
