Chelsea have been through a period of serious squad devastation, with injury and Covid cutting a swathe through Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Thing have just turned for the better in the last few days, with isolation periods ending and some of the first team working their way back to fitness. Now there’s some even better news to add.
As one of the players who had avoided injury and Covid this winter, Hakim Ziyech has had to play a lot, and that was set to continue with a trip to the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco.
But today it’s been revealed that the winger isn’t in his national team squad for the tournament, continuing a long standing dispute with their manager Vahid Halilhodzic.
It’s a shame for Ziyech but a boost for Chelsea, who will now only miss Edouard Mendy for the duration of his tournament. Things are really starting to come together at last.
