“Hugely involved in this win” – Thomas Tuchel praises academy stars after League Cup win

It was a beautiful night for Chelsea’s academy last night as not only did they have three youngsters getting their debut from the start, two others joined them on the bench in the senior squad as well.

Cobham is known for producing amazing and talented footballers over the years but very few of them actually get to play for the senior team. So what a moment it was for Harvey Vale, Jude Soonsup-Bell, and Xavier Simons last night as they helped the team get past Brentford in the League Cup to reach the semis.

None of them looked out of place at all and all three, especially Vale, actually looked very good.

They had only had two training sessions with the first team so all three were taken off but they got some solid minutes and they really impressed the manager, Thomas Tuchel, as reported by the Chelsea website.

“They were good,” said Tuchel.

“They did very well, so congratulations to them. They were hugely involved in this win. It was their first time, and they had two training sessions with us, and I’m happy for them.

“They did not train for one week when the Academy was closed because of Covid and then we invited them to come with us two days ago. They were listening carefully and they did their jobs tonight.

“It also shows the character of the eight other guys. It’s easy to play with our guys, they are helpful and supportive.”
