Jorginho celebrates birthday after annus mirabilis

It’s Jorginho’s birthday today, at the end of an unbelievably successful year for the midfielder.

Often divisive, even just among Chelsea fans, the argument has long raged back and forth about whether he’s really good and hard to appreciate, or just not that good.

Well, this year there’s no shortage of silverware to drop on the table as evidence for the former.

Looking back, the former Napoli man couldn’t have done much better in 2021.

He has a Champions League and a UEFA Super Cup with Chelsea for club success. Then with Italy he went and won Euro 2020.

Those team successes then made him the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, and earned him a 3rd place finish in the Ballon d’Or.

That won’t stop the arguing – of course it won’t. But it will at least mean Jorgi can ignore the chatter and know he’s proved to himself that he can be the very best.
