Chelsea need a left back after the announcement this week that Ben Chilwell would miss the rest of the season after his knee surgery.
That information has fired up the transfer rumour mill, and the Athletic have deep dived on some of our targets.
Lucas Digne seems the front runner as it stands. He fits the bill in a few ways – he’s experienced in the Premier League but also wants out at Everton, who are willing to sell as they’ve found an alternative.
The issue is whether Chelsea go for the loan or the sale. The Athletic suggest that a permanent deal would cost £25m for the former Barcelona player, a steep fee for someone who is likely to be second choice come next season.
The other alternative is a loan – although given the Toffees will apparently expect “a hefty fee” plus most of Digne’s wages paid for, that seems like an even worse deal.
