“Really disappointing” – Chelsea captain vows to ‘stick together’ after another poor result

Just when Chelsea fans thought the team had gone through the other side of a bad run of form, they give away a late equaliser at home to Brighton to only manage a draw in what is another poor performance.

Of course, we have been hit with Covid-19 and injuries and that has played a huge part. But at the end of the day Chelsea as a club are a team that need to be up there regardless, and this is a concerning moment for them all.

Chelsea had enough to beat Brighton last night and they should have sewn it up if not for missed chances and very poor Refereeing decisions.

But that cannot be dwelled on and as I say, we can’t keep making excuses, this is a results based business and we need to find them now.

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta vows to ‘stick together’ and ‘overcome’ this difficult moment.

“It’s really disappointing.

“Of course, we had chances to kill the game,” Azpilicueta said on the Chelsea website.

“They also had the chances. We left them alive and of course in the last minute to concede a goal and drop two points is very frustrating. We are not happy at all.

“We knew Brighton make things difficult and we know they would press us high, and they would leave us big chances also for us, so we catch them in a few quick attacks where we could have been more clinical.

“They also had a few chances. They play good football and we had to cope again with two injuries at half-time and you know, that leaves us in a bad position. It is not an excuse, we worked hard, and we were close to the three points.

“We left a few injuries behind, and the Covid situation, and a few points on the road where we could have managed to get them – that punishes you,’ he said after making his 450th Chelsea appearance.

“The Premier League is the toughest league in the world, and every opponent is very difficult, but when you don’t get the three points it’s very disappointing.

“We want to win games and hopefully we can give our fans a good start to the new year in front of the fans here against Liverpool. It is a tough moment, but we need to stick together and dig in. It is not an easy situation but this is how we have to overcome these difficult moments.”
