Romelu Lukaku says he wants to return to Inter Milan whilst he ‘is still at a good enough level’

This isn’t the first time players will talk about playing for other teams whilst they are at their current clubs and it won’t be the last.

However, at the very least here quotes released by Sky Sports yesterday from Romelu Lukaku do not paint the best picture, are unprofessional, and are the last thing Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel need right now.

It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!

The original quotes that were initially released were dramatised and cleverly delivered. However, a player with Lukaku’s maturity should have known what would happen with these quotes whatever the context they were meant in, and although the interview was three weeks ago now, this has created a far from ideal situation that should have been avoided.

Lukaku clearly has some views on his role in Tuchel’s team, so those views should have stayed and been sorted between the striker and the manager, there is now way that this needs to be public.

His words on returning to Inter Milan as well, are just not needed. Saying that he wants to go back there whilst he is still good enough, doesn’t bode well. He’s 29 in May, so this isn’t exactly a long commitment to Chelsea.

However you look at it, these comments are ill-judged and were always going to bring drama, drama that the club and Tuchel do not need right now with a whole host of other problems going on.

“Physically I’m doing great. I’m just not very happy with the situation, but that’s normal,” Lukaku said.

“I think the boss has decided to play a different formation but I have to stick at it and get on with it professionally.

“I’m not happy with the situation but it’s my job and I mustn’t give up.

“I don’t think any of it should have happened the way it did. The way I left Inter and the way I communicated with the Inter fans. I’m annoyed about that because it’s not the right time now but it wasn’t the right time when I left either.

“I always said that I love Inter and I’ll play for them again. I really hope so. I fell in love with Italy.

“Now is the right time to talk about it and tell people what really happened, without saying anything bad about anyone, because I’m not like that.

“I want to really apologise to the Inter fans because I don’t think I should have left Inter the way I did. I should have spoken to you guys first, especially after everything you did for me, for my family, my mum, my son. I’ll never forget that.

“I hope from the bottom of my heart to go back to Inter and not at the end of my career but when I’m still at a good enough level to win more trophies.”

  1. Thoughts from months ago, weeks ago, yesterday? … Who cares? … If any player is less than 100% committed to CFC they should hang their head in shame for taking CFC’s money and simply leave. Sorry, I don’t have time for ‘spongers’ and ‘score-now-and-again’ walkers !
    End of rant !
