Saul Niguez the statistical Man of the Match for Chelsea as he finally breaks bad run

After coming off the bench against Everton, and then getting the whole second half against Wolves last week, Saul Niguez had been building himself up for another start, and last night he got it in the rotated lineup taking on Brentford in the EFL Cup.

And, it’s hard to say he didn’t make the most of it. In fact, according to WhoScored’s rating system he got a 7.9/10, making him the best player in the match, level with Marcos Alonso.

Now we might dispute that a little – Trevoh Chalobah was brilliant at the back, for example. But the fact that Chelsea made 5 subs in the game meant there were few players out there for 90 minutes, and Saul certainly impressed.

He won 4 tackles and 3 aerial duels, as well as making 3 successful dribbles, being dispossessed just once in 90 minutes. His passing was simple and precise. Now this is the player we thought we were getting!
